about

I wrote this track shortly after learning of my friend dying from Covid. The pandemic seemed to be getting under control here in the US. My friends and family were all getting vaccines. Things were starting to look up for everyone. Then I got an email with the obituary of a friend of 20 years. I learned that he died in the hospital 2 miles from my house. He was the same age as me. Too young to die. Too young to die from this disease. When I think of all the people who denied the disease, who were angry about the lockdowns, who refused to wear masks, I can't help but wonder what if it was their friend or family member who lost their life.

Enjoy the people in your lives. Be safe.

lyrics

What do we say about the friends we’ve lost?
What do we say about moving on?
What do we say about crying?
What do we say when we’re left alone?

Where do we go when our friends are dying?
Where do we go when we can’t go home?
Where do we go to find another life?
Where do we go when we can’t move on?

Too many gone
Too many gone
We’re all left behind
Trying to move on

Too many gone
Too many gone
Left unchecked
It will just keep going on

How do we act when our dreams are dying?
Who do we call when we’re broke for good?
What do we do when our family falls apart?
I can’t go on but I know I should.

Too many gone
Too many gone
We’re all left behind
Trying to move on

Too many gone
Too many gone
Left unchecked
It will just keep going on

People dying, everyday
People shouting, like they know the way
People praying, for another day
Keep on hoping, we'll find a way

What do we say about those who look the other way?
How can we make them see the truth?
How can they be so damn selfish?
As if our friends and family weren’t enough proof.
